2 Responses to Celebrity Saturday: A royal wedding for the world's most famous RAF pilot

HRH Prince William of Wales, carries on the long and honourable tradition of serving in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. William chose the RAF. Prince Harry, his brother, chose the Royal Marines ( I think, not totally certain ).

However, all recent male members of the Royal Family have traditionally learned to fly helicopters. That shows how safe choppers are considered to be, compared with jet fighters !! They are always tutored to exceptionally high standards in their general education, and as a result, are always offered places in Britain’s most prestigious military & naval colleges.

You may recall, that William was most annoyed, that an Australian
‘ womens’ glossy ‘ gave away his secret identity as a combat soldier in Afghanistan. Another tradition of British princes for some time, is to serve a ‘short’ engagement in a combat zone. William’s father, HRH Prince Charles flew a helicopter in the Falklands Islands war of 1982.

Whether you like them or not, the British Royal family have a very interesting history.

……. but to add to the notion, of William being the ” world’s most famous RAF pilot”…….

He isn’t really. That title, I believe, is held by Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader ( with a string of military post nominals that most people don’t know what they stand for )

‘ Tin Legs Bader ‘ as he became known, lost both his legs in an aircraft crash. He motivated himself to such a point, that he suceeded in being reinstated to his position as an RAF pilot during WWII.

If you are interested, Google his name, and be inspired by his achievements in life WITHOUT LEGS !!

He is the world’s most famous RAF pilot…..
