Australia has bred some of the biggest stars on television and in movies today.

Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett, Eric Bana, and Naomi Watts.

We’ve got plenty of great performers and musicians too such as Natalie Imbruglia, Delta Goodrem, Kylie Minogue, Daniel Johns and of course Jimmy Barnes!

Have you ever nursed a celebrity, performer, or sports star? If so, are they down to earth people?

If we were to share our celebrity stories, wouldn’t this then be a breach of confidentiality?

  2. nursezilla says:

I agree with fallen_angel we do not want to go down the path of the celebrity worship – all patients deserve our care and respect regardless of who they are – do we not sign a confidentiality contract in our paper work that stresses on confidentiality?
After all celebrities are just people with a more glamourous high paying job and they deserve dignity and respect just like the 90 year old hip replacement pensioner in the room next door.

I know what you are saying, both of you, but couldn’t you ( should you have a story ), simply give the subject a pseudo. Eg. Let me tell you about the time I had ‘Jim’ as a patient in my Medical Ward. Jim’s a well known movie star……

You could then go on about how you found Jim as a ‘person’ etc.

I don’t see a problem with that, as long as you didn’t say something like…. ” Well, when my new patient in ED was working in Sydney, as the lead character in the first MATRIX movie, his slipped and broke his leg. As his nurse, I asked him if he prefers to be called Mr. Reeves or by his first name…. ”

I think you could adequately maintain confidentiality by covering up the names and places, and just talk about the person – as long as you didn’t give away certain clues !!

I was once given a box of chocs by the guitarist of a popular band that I cared for.

  5. McCall says:

I’ve nursed my son who is the vocalist for Parkway Drive – an Australian metalcore band who have just won an Aria for their 3rd CD – Deep Blue! Licoricelegs

I nursed two politicians many years back. One seemed to always be on their mobile to the Prime Minister whenever it was medication time and the other would often phone into Alan Jones’ radio show in the morning. Both made planning of care difficult but both were very pleasant and appreciative. Their rooms were always filled with newspapers galore, including state, rural and city papers and they were rarely off their mobiles!

  7. The name that springs to mind for me, and should certainly make any Top 10 list is Joaquin Phoenix. He should have won Best Supporting Actor for the role of Commodus in Gladiator and Greatest Actor for his amazinf portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. Both of these were brilliant performances. I still believe he only missed out for Walk the Line because Ray did so well the previous year.

  8. Ken Wildy says:

Yes I have; at Woy Woy on Central Coast. One of Australia’s greatest scientists and consevationalist persons. We were all learning from his wide range of educational books at school. There is an area within Australia named after him; very well known in WA. He left his remains to science and was a man of greatest dignity.
It was an honor to server this fine gentleman in his last 3 months of much need care in which he never complained. We and his remaining family all said ‘see you next time mate’..he smiled and died.
