Patients need beds and an empty bed means simply that .. an empty bed to management! Everyone is pushed to accomodate patients, from the bed manager who has to free up beds in emergency by getting patients to the wards, to the wards who have practically just discharged a patient before having another patient land in the bed to emergency who need to free up space to accomodate new patients. it all boils down to a stressed, overworked system with insufficient resources attempting to manage the best it can. Unfortunatley in the end its the patients who ultimatley suffer and the staff who are increasingly overworked.

Hello again,
That's good news if it's included in the Garling Report to nurse male patients in a designated room and female patients in a female room ...that's good, But what taking it so long to implement? well in fact all that was needed to do is say YES for it to be implemented. Why?Is there anybody out there(hospital admin. and minister of health)listening and effecient enough to implement this. The time is NOW people! Don't you agree?

Yes there are good reasons to 'roll the eyes' on and about this matter.

It should be for all levels of nurses to lobby via NSWNA Gen Sec. our Min for Health at both levels;State and Federal and never forget the powers of Shadow Ministers or your local MP...you vote for them.

Also lobby your CEO,Board of the Hospital and Head of Medicine. The more who get the overall dislike of this existing situation the better.
So please act on it NOW!!!

Hello everyone,
This is a calling to all nurses in the highest position and this is a calling for the minister of health who can influence the hospital admin to set a policy of having designated rooms for male and female patients respectively. In the wards where everyone can see and hear what's going on, it is always put on us nurses, the responsibility of preserving privacy and if we fail we are blamed.Privacy and dignity goes hand in hand.But... THINK that IF there is a room for female patients and male patients respectively the more chance of privacy to be maintained and dignity preserved.Don't you agree?

I agree with all comments:- BLAME Hihavaniceda you say!

We nurses are to blame..short and sweet..if we all said NO THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN..the NUM or DON could do what?
Call Security;the Police;the CEO?? Let it be put as Policy and Published for te general popoulation to know we nurses object and as we know Pts do have rights.

Read any Charter..
Dignity is mentioned for all...what utter crap!!
Enough is enough. Half the time curtains between beds do not function; and at night become 'see-throughs'.
I was in a Ward where it took the CEO and a visiting local MP inspection to have 6 beds reduced to 4 beds..it was just outrageous to expect work to be done..and now we have males in 8 beds; females in 8 beds;3 single rooms, two roooms each with 2 beds opposite Nurses Station.

But as I keep emphasisingggggggg..if readers WILL NOT ACT to make this point in a written form to their MP's it will remain as it is..just a ....ed situation

Yes , I was shocked when they started to do this, I would hate it is it was me or my daughter in a room with men.

Who the hell gets these ideas? Who makes these decisions. Who lets it happen? It is just another nitch in the deterorating fabric of our wonderful Australian socity.

WHO IS TO BLAME?

Good Am, sisterjay
It's sad isn't.It's not rocket science to provide room for female patients and male patients respectively. But why...they are making it too hard for the nurses and patients. It's just one word from the chief executive of the hospital and it will all happen but they don't want to do it unless somebody from the government will say so or unless patients and their relatives will rally in front of the parliament. Is this not also the job of the patient liason to see whether patient's dignity is preserved.Where are they, anyway?

this happens in our place every day.one guy made us nurse his wife in the corridor because he didnt want her in with men.when the bosses mum came in,a private room was instantly made available.we have all spoken up and got the usual response which was:shut up and get over it.this is the way things are.

Hello to all nurses out there. How's your day been? Hope you are all alright as well as the patients you are looking after.

As nurses, we are patient's advocate..right? but I don't think that a person should be a nurse in order to see the dreadful condition our patients are in to. Just for example, the area they are nursed in a 4 bedded room, female patient mixed with male patients. We don't mind if they are still in A& E waiting for bed, but how many of our patients..female,young as 15 or maybe more.. suffer the emotional trauma of being in a four bedded room with 3 other male patients. How do you think they sleep at night. Can our ministers or simply our hospital admin. not do anything to amend this simple need for dignity. Surely, if they got their female relative, they ,too do not want them to be nursed in a room with 3 other male patient, no matter how active or immobile they are. The same is true with male patient that is nursed with 3 other female patients. Can they not provide a simple solution..to separate male patients from female patients. Other countries have done it..why can't Australia do it. Today is Australia Day..can our ministers do something about it..we know they have not experienced visiting a female relative lying in a room with 3 other male patients or a male patients lying in a room with 3 other female patients because they can afford to go to a private hospital with their own single room. This is the time to do something about this..so nurses out there..I think this is the time to let our voices be heard..patient's relatives should campaign about this.Anybody out there who empathise?!!!To our minister of health ..help is needed in this area.
