We have work experience students in the unit where I am. It is a challenge to keep them interested, as they don't usually want to just follow nurse around for the week, and have been going with the doctors to clinics etc recently. I am trying to change that, as it's certainly not a good advertisement for nursing if we can't inspire the WE students and just hand them over to the doctors! So with our next one I will be getting them to spend a couple of days with a nurse on the ward, and then a day with our CNE, a day with the CNC and a day with the NUM. That way they can get an idea of the different opportunities nursing can give people. These senior staff members are also very dedicated and want to attract people into nursing, so we will see what the feedback is!Idea

we get requests for year 10 students to have work experience in Child & family health. We have a policy of not taking them because the work is often challenging, complex and confidentiality is a big issue. We don't even see many student nurses which is such a shame as we need to recuit more C&FH nursesUnsure

Do you want to get work expereince as a nurse? A long time ago....well before most of you were born..(70's).. I did work experience at a big teaching hospital. It was great and even though I had two more years at school I knew what I wanted to do. Nursing is a great profession. I am not sure how it all works now. S Big Smile
