Must have slept through the 'it's illegal' phase...so much for a code of ethics!

So night shift penalty rates once again thrown on the backburner.Pity as less and less people seem willing to do them. The new grads seem reluctant as doesn't fit the glam the Uni's use to sell Nursing as such a wonderful career.Guess us old diehards will have to keep the dream alive and never be rewarded for our efforts ,ill health, lack of social life etc etc.I am on night nduty as I write this!!!

Are you kidding Bernhard? We can only protest on days off. Some members were threatened by upper management for attending a rally against dangerous staffing levels in the Western suburbs. They attended in their unpaid lunch break. We may be members of the union but the state government has made it illegal for us to strike. Instant dismissal and it is not covered under unfair dismissal. Read the NSW Health Code of Conduct. Even if we say anything to the media after resigning from NSW Health we can be prosecuted!

why can't we strike? I thought this was our union. We have enough workers to get the message out!

I doubt we may ever see it regardless of who wins the federal election. Unlike rail workers we can't strike to highlight our wage claim.

Hi!!! We brought this up at the NSWNA Annual Conference in a resolution. ( I'm an NSWNA Delegate.) It has not been forgotten....just pushed back temporarily until the "Log of Claims' has been completed (we hope!)

Nurses Only..OPPSS! if I am not mistaken 12.5% + 2.5% as you have it = 15%...do you agree?

If on nights are to get 25% it is an increase of 12.5% as I calculate it. Any comments?

And as this must seem the same old 'never-ending-story' from me:(.... if you i.e.( all of us) do not take a collective action on this matter it will not get changed..Ok no matter what presentation os made via NSWNA or ANU.

I was wondering the same thing as I read about the latest log of claims for the upcoming award negotiations. Nothing has happened and nothing will happen. Night shift is alway forgotten when the goodies are handed out.

Today, I was thinking and speaking to colleges about what is the actaul status of the night shift campaign for increased penalties.

so does anyone know whats the status of the push for night penalites  at 25%?

As it is ends up not being really worth it if  when an arvo shift is 12.5% and nights are only gettting 2.5% more and doing permanent nights is terrible for your health! so nights should be better compensated penalty wise.
