ROFL! My bio exam had a diagram of a mitochondia to label with Krebs cycle and the only thing I could remember was the krebs cycle. Now really will I ever need to know that?

Hey, this is my thread!
Where is the rest of the thread .... this is only half of it?
Why is it not in my name!
I have been away because my old computer could not handle this site ... and I now have a new computer.... and I am back .... have you forgotten me?
Also why am I making new paragraphs but when I post the sentances are all after one another? |

Say hello, introduce yourself if you haven't already done so. Explain what the doctor has ordered any why. Check to make sure you have the RIGHT patient, order, time, consent, blood type, check for any contraindications, anything that may need to be stopped whilst the transfusion is taking place. Talk to the patient and check his notes for any history that is revelant. Have another nurse recheck the order, blood etc...
Also take his BP and other obs and after hanging the blood up take his obs again 5 minutes later and than every 15 min for the first hour. (Is this right?)
Is there anything I've missed or gotten wrong? I haven't done alot of work with blood transfusions and have only seen it once on prac. |

Ok .... what is the most simple and obvious but most important check that should be done before you put up the packed cells. (This is soooooo easy .... you do it every day with every patient.)
He is waiting for you .... he wants one nurse please.

The first thing I would do is check to see if it the correct blood group before I even hang the bag up lol. And chat him up afterwards |

I can see that there are a few peaking at this thread. This is a serious thread. But I think you are all just coming to to look at my patients.

OK ... I am home unwell today (I have over 8 months sick leave owing so if I am unwell I think I can take a day off, I seem to have caught a bug I cannot get rid of).
Anyway, my question to you lovely student nurses today is ...
You are about to put up a blood infusion on this man ... what is one item in the important chain of events to ensure this man's safe infusion.

OK ... all you nice student nurses ... I have a survey for you all.
One word answers only ..... do you want the "T shirt" or the "Bloke" in it.

Hi,
I was just wondering if I could offer any support to you, here, this is a place where you can ask those little questions that you want to know the answer but you don't want to look silly.
Just remember ... there is NEVER a silly question.
(I may need help here from other RNs, as I am sure I don't know ALL the answers ) |
