I optained clinical competencies as an AIN with the exception of meds. It was taken from the AIN undergrad form. Even Though I worked as an EN, I was being payed as an AIN. Convenient, unfair, cheap option I think!!

Gee, that would mean getting the area health services to all agree on what they want....we can't even get a competency template agreed upon for one area health service, let alone all of them!

I think that AIN's should have some sort of competency test to take to become an EN.
I have 10 years experience working in age care.I have to train all the new EN s when they come on prac. Why cant we have a make up course.

nmb NSW has Competency Standards for RN; RM; NP; EN but no templates. These are general standards however, some specialties have their own competency standards developed by their formal specialty organisations - Child & family Health has some template standards. This is all hotly debated because no one can seem to agree on this issue.I was part of a working group where we worked on a template for competencies as part of performance Review process and I believe it would have worked well, but it was trashed by a NUM! Who would have thought! In early 2000 Tasmanian Nurses had to show evidence of competency called "episodes of practice" for annual registration; the registration board do a random audit and the audited nurse had to provide 12 episodes of observed practice by a CNS written up to give evidence of ongoing competent practice. It was difficult but a good idea. there was a template for this.

We have a competency book that we need to fill out every year. There is a list of assessments for AINs, ENs, EENs and RNs to do and complete before December each year

Do we have a state template for competencies?
I do not think so.
Do you think we should? Unsure
