Well I have been bullied to the point of being assaulted by another staff member and she was not even repremanded. I have never felt supported and I have worked toooo many years and too much unpaid overtime. I would leave tomorrow if I could find a job that I liked that paid the same money.
Even though I am an excellent experianced nurse which many younger nurses including student nurses get put under my wing I would go.
I am done, I am hanging out for retirement in approx 5 years time. I would have taken that redundancy that was stopped by the union if I could have. I was worth almost $80,000 and that would have supplemented my income for a few years if I only worked as serving in a chemist.
Sorry if this is not the answer you seek. |

why do I stay in nursing? Because I like it and I like to make things better; and I don't just mean people - I like improving systems especially and there's a lot to improve in nursing and health. I like the challenge of nursing and I sincerely believe in what I do. I know it's often undervalued, under-resourced and misunderstood, but that's part of the challenge for me. That's why I volunteered to write blogs for NSWNA - to reach out and encourage nurses to speak and reflect on all aspects of practice. I sincerely believe that we can improve nursing and health systems and for me clinically I believe that working with mother's and children enables chnages to occur that will effect people through generations. I like that - so I put up with the crap! |

Some ask:- 'why can't we keep young Rn's?' 1 The system is 'bitchy' and loaded against them. 2 Health Dept has no care for nurses, but lacks the gutts to say so. 3 Over Admin Methodology in place.
As nurses we care for our patients. The system does neither. If you drop dead tomorrow don't even expect NSW Health Dept to send flowers or a card, it just will not happen. Your mates will, that is reality.
Over-worked,total stress loaded,'out-of-sight-out-of-mind attitude',poor remuneration for services given,no incentive to do more than the 'clock' says to go home-time.
Hey, I gave up an entire Easter to serve Pts: Cool my choice. Govt took all the overtime in TAX..I got nothing. Never again! I missed all the family and Faith based areas I go too. For what?..filling a gap! Get real...mmm..
Why stay and put up with it? Tell me why you do and be non-emotional, be subjective please. And do not 'paint it as if this is all you could do in life' Ok! |

Hello, Hihavaniceda.
It is sad to hear such stories. It will be interesting to see if we can get someone's views on this matter. I will pass the idea along. Thanks for sharing! |
