Having started another 2 agencies for others, I can't see why you are locked into a closed mindset. You can start so many new jobs, it is unfathomable to perceive remaining stagnant. For kids in year 7 at high school, over 70 percent of the jobs they may do do not yet exist. Technology is increasing at an exponential rate, and if we don't adapt we will be left behind. There are still many who haven't yet been game enough to work a computer - they are possibly doomed, and will flounder in the sinking ship they are thinking will get them to shore. Nursing has so many opportunities, and those who keep their eyes shut hoping the boogey-man goes away will have a sad end.

Bernhard, "today's economic climate" is such, that TODAY, one can no longer start a new Agency. The 'climate' is at saturation point, and the system will not tolerate any new-comers. next, I don't see lawyers and engineers etc. re-training to be 'check-out chics', incase there's another GFC ... why should degree qualified RNs "learn a dozen new trades every six weeks". ( obviously, you must have been overly stressing your point - beyond reality )

All Australian workers have to be prepared to diversify in today's economic climate. Learn a dozen new trades every 6 weeks so you can be ready for the sideways shuffle, or else do your own thing and start a business! I work agency, and have done so since 1987. There is always work, somewhere. If it dries out in Australia, jump ship and head off to Saudi or Canada etc. Stop the stress now, and start your own agency. ps., why work for another agency when you can earn the commission through your own!

Who among you are on casual, contract or labour hire type of employment in nursing? How do you feel about it?

A panel of experts and community members chaired by former Deputy Prime Minister Brian Howe will conduct the Insecure Work Inquiry, listening to the stories of workers around the country.

We've published a helpful guide to help 'tell your story'. We also want to know your story on parental leave in Australia. How do you feel about it? Click on the link below for more info:
