Concerned about an RN regarding a S8 drug incident
Wanna play with fire ??
You are entitled to lodge a written complaint to AHPRA or NSW HCCC ( depends on what State you are in ) ... as the person responsible for making the 'restriction' has not ( as you say ) reported the issue to AHPRA.
Perhaps it was reported, in which case, AHPRA themselves are responsible.
The whole system has turned to Sh*t since they took over anyway ... |

What Are They Doing In WA?
I happened to chance upon a ( ? ) new trend in Nursing, whilst going through some advertisements on a free advertising website ( the one with 'tree' as part of the name ).
I was amused to find several Nursing students advertising for 'pregnant women' to consent to being "supported" by non-registered students.
All the ads claim, they are from a prominent WA university, and the students are required to experience "continuity of care" etc.
Surely the training facility or the WA Govt. can provide such mandatory practice / experiences?
I wonder if the 'ethics committee' knows they are externally advertising to the wider community?
If you are a woman, would you go along with this ??? |

Dermititis! How do you prevent/manage it? Any tips?
Healthcare workers are, unsurprisingly, one of the main groups who suffer from Dermatitis. It is the most common occupationally-caused skin disease and one of the most common work-related problems presented to GPs in Australia. Predictably, the hands, followed by the arms, are the main sites of dermatatis, which for nurses is generally caused by exposure to water, soap, detergents and/or latex gloves.
How about you? Do you suffer from work-related dermatitis or have you worked alongside someone who has? Does your workplace have a skin care plan in place? Do you have any tips for managing this condition while still working as a nurse? |

I mostly agree with your statements ER, but in regard to mobile phones, I would say this: What of schools ringing to inform the parent, that their child is sick or injured? What of that important call from any one of 'hundreds' of potentially 'must speak to you now' callers ( ATO, mortgage, even another hospital, calling about a relative in the ED needing 'consent' etc. etc. ) We all have aspects of our lives that, at times, are not within our total control. Don't be too hard on someone who has received a mobile call or SMS - it may not be purely 'social' ... |

Few weeks has passed since the Kings Cross incident.
Did the cops get a 'commendation' ?? Of bloody course not !! They are under scrutiny for placing the general public at high risk ( car driver being shot while the cops were shooting at the car's windscreen - placing a dozen innoscent by-standers at risk of dealth or injury )
REALLY !!! what is being taught at Goulburn Police academy these days ?? |

I've lost count of the number of posts that NURSEUNCUT has declined to publish.
REAL issues should not be censured. Censorship is allegedly restriction of free speech, and against a number of principles in a democratic society.
If you continue to take this stand of selectively publishing relevant and current political issues ... then one MUST ask the question ..... WHO'S SIDE ARE YOU REALLY ON ???? |

Hi Fellow Facebook-ers! and Twitter-ers! Nurse uncut is a cool way to keep up to date! so is FB and twitter, but pls not while we are at work! I see students do this, CNS and RNs young and old. Answering our mobile phones in the middle of work and secret SMS and facebook updates underneath the paperworks, or even while using the restroom......UNCOOL! We will be way COOLER if we keep to the Nursing standards, ethics and professional conducts required of us. Let's not steal the time that we are paid to work. If you seem to think its not a busy day, there is always the emergency trolley or blood glucose machine to be checked and calibrated, or a bit of tidying up here and there. After all your breaktime or home time is not far away. Its not worth being apprehended for this! Our patients will respect us more for this, the opposite of which is you will end up in Youtube - "the FB nurse" or the Texting Nurse! |

EENS, what are we worth?
In my last Aged Care job ( and it will be THE LAST Aged Care job I have ), I encountered an AIN doing a spot of 'homework' for one of their modules in a Cert. IV upgrade course. That's OK, I had no objection to the guy improving his knowledge and employment opportunities. However, along came the EN on the shift, who took over, and started correcting a few things here and there. When I casually walked over and asked about this course, and observed, that she was actually MARKING the assignments, I then asked: "Are you a Cert.IV Training and Assessment qualified assessor ?" WHAT'S THAT? she replied. Well, here we go, I thought !!! After a ten minute intro into the Cert.IV Training and Assessment course, I finished off by stating, that she CAN NOT be marking and assessing this guy's assignments - as she does not hold the qualification to do so. Her response ??? "I've been doing this for years. XXXXX ( the employer ) says I can do it, because they are an RTO and will 'sign off' on my assessments anyway".
ANY WONDER the Aged Care Industry is the way it is. |

EENS, what are we worth?
We really need to get better pay and more trained experienced RNs and EENs into aged care. Whilst I will admit a lot of AIN'S are very good there are also a lot out there who think think a few weeks training and having someone else do their correspsondence training and assignments so they can pass schedule modules and advance the education side of nursing thinking they are being smart - they are not - but unfortunately to many of them are cheating or rorting the system.
We will also not mention all the unemployed and pensioners who do these courses (AIN'S) in tafe free of charge to get their extra money and fit the requirements to remain on government payments walking away 3/4s the way through a course taking with them a lost opportunity of a worker to advance themselves because we/ they (worker) have to pay full price for the course - and an inflated sense of self.
That last paragraph was a whinge at people I know who do that all the time. I 'm sorry but sometimes things have to be said and put in the open.
But we do need more professionals in aged care. |

Give us a story of what you are seeing?
Eg. are you talking about In Charge RNs being first or second year? Or are you being told you must be the In Charge, and you don't feel confident, due to say, inexperience? |

No, I doubt that is LEGAL.
However, if OHS / WHS rules are being broken, and the Committee recognise this, I would think, that the executive of the Committee are liable to be fined by WorkCover.
Further, each worker who does break certain rules, is liable to a WorkCover fine - which would be far greater than $2. !!! |

Charging a fee at work
My work OH & S commitee had decide to put a $2 charge on anyone who has not done things correctly eg manual handling if they are reported. Is this legal?
I heard the money is meant to go to the work christmas party in which a lot of staff would not be able to attended. |

Heros with guns !!
Gee, what's THIS week's story ??
Arrrrh yes. Police shoot teens in crowded Kings Cross steet. Surprised to read this this? Not really.Surprised when the police get commended for their actions ... not really.
In Skye's Law, any citizen will be charged, if they lead police on a chase. HOWEVER, what about police being the cause of the damage ??
In this most recent case, all the police need to do TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY ... was to co-ordinate a response up the street, so when the identified vehicle proceeded to the next street corner, the car would be blocked from escaping.
to start shooting because a car mounts the kerb is NOT a lawful reason to 'shoot-to-kill' in this country. When it was put to the deputy commisioner... "why not just shoot the tyres then ...?" His response was, "we don't shoot out tyres - we only shoot at people".
Lovely. Any wonder why the population has an issue with police behaviour lately !!
