Surely, the most anticipated movie of 2011 just had to be ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part II’.

The eighth and final movie of the series, reflects the very essence of what is often deemed as the ‘good fight’ against evil.

Whether you liked the movie series or not, and despite any perceived ‘failings’ in translation from the books by JK Rowling, this movie summed up all that was Harry and friends. From innocence to determined crusader against evil, Harry has given us all a taste of fantasy in an unstable world where anything can happen.

What this movie is really saying, is that ‘the fight’ is always worth it in the end.

That ‘good’ must always triumph over ‘evil’.

Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud is my favourite.
A great story of a young boy who loses his father in the tragedy of 911.

‘The Help’ is inspiration from the American civil rights movement. In the deepsouth, women moved by injustice and the vision of a young university graduate find courage to tell their stories. Each helps the other to take hold of the change they can make both individually, and ultimately, together. Their families and their community are changed as they change, as they step outside the confines of their fears and discover the beautiful harmonies of their combined voices.

With great actresses and great acting, ‘The Help’ is a window on a past that is easily forgotten but still exists in other places, between other people groups today. I grew up hearing news reports about the race riots. I have also had to face my own enslaving fears. Like the women in the movie, I have seen changes that began with one small step. While a work of fiction, the themes of ‘The Help’ are rooted in real events. Freedom begins with one individual, captures a few and emancipates many.

  4. Amanda says:

Young Adult. It’s about a dissatisfied and deeply lonely woman in her late thirties. She revisits the places and people of her youth in attempts to counteract being ‘past her prime’. The characters she meets up with from her past are juxtaposed with the central character; in that they are joyous, greatful and deeply satisfied with their personal lives. The movie provides much ‘food for thought’ and allows the audience to take stock of their lives, in the process of identifying with either the central character or the mentality of the peripheral characters.

  5. Rosemary Roworth says:

The Artist is the best movie of 2011/12. This is a picture that takes us back to an era where glamour, fame and celebrity meant something, as opposed to todays “celebrities” that have sullied a once glorified time.
Being a silent picture it proves that dialogue between any two people can be superfluous providing ones intentions are clear.

  6. Louise Howell says:

“Puss in Boots” The moral of the story = revenge verses forgiveness.
There is innocence, I loved Puss in Boots, and his “cute look,” it was a lot of fun. The animation was great I loved seeing the hero rise, above adversity. I think it’s a great movie for the kids and adults. It doesn’t insult kid’s intelligence by making the movie too cute and there are jokes that even the adults get into like how Puss is more a lover than a fighter. I really did enjoy Puss in Boots, This is exactly what we need to help us lighten up and laugh in our otherwise busy and serious world. A great story with the most ferocious smooth talking cat on the planet.

  7. Maddie Midson says:

The Iron Lady (2011) : Such an inspirational story about Margaret Thatcher, a woman who came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world of British Politics during the 1950′s,1960′s, 1970′s & early 1990′s.

Thanks to Nurse Uncut, and the supplier of this DVD I received.

I certainly identify with the lead character, as I consider myself a ‘whistleblower’ of sorts.

Whilst I haven’t been threatened with my life, as such ( as in the movie theme ), I have experienced the corruption entrenched in Nursing in NSW.

See something and say something will get you into trouble.

The truth is, see something and shutup … do something, and you will pay …

I’m about to ‘pay’ yet again. Just can’t help myself….
