We’ve had some popular blog posts over the last year.
Some of our favourites are:
- Romance in the Workplace – yay or nay?
“With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it got me thinking about love and romance at work.
Well, I love medical drama shows. I always have – from A Country Practice when I was growing up to the likes of Greys Anatomy and The Practice nowadays. But, one thing that has always struck me is the way relationships develop on those shows.
Fully aware that TV is not reality (although I think some of my friends may disagree), I always laugh when I see doctors and nurses making out in the doctors’ lounge or various other not-so-private areas within the hospital.
You see, never in my 16 years of nursing have I caught any member of staff in such an embrace. It’s certainly not that I am oblivious to my surroundings. So, it just makes me wonder if such things really happen?”
- The New Australian Health System – What’s in it for nurses?
“So it looks as if the health system is going to get yet another shake down! Are you wondering what it means for all us frontline health workers?
From my 35 years experience working in the health system I can tell you it probably means lot’s more bureaucrats overseeing the same old system and jealously protecting their individual patches!
Historically the reforming of health always goes something like this…”
- Between the Flags – your thoughts?
“The launch of the standardised observation chart with a colour-coded warning system, dubbed ‘Between the Flags’, was implemented at all NSW hospitals this year. The program was dubbed “Between the Flags” because it was based on the way Surf Life Savers keep watch over us and ensure we remain within safe boundaries.
Research into health systems around the world shows that some warning signs can be recognised earlier. Between the Flags supports doctors and nurses in knowing these signs, making clinical decisions on when to seek help and what sort of help is needed.”
- Workplace Injury and Workers Compensation
We discussed nurse’s rights, their experiences, what they are covered for, and how much they know about workplace compensation. How and why nurses should be covered and what happens if they are not? What are the individuals responsibilities and what should be covered by the employer/hospital? If a claim is not covered by Work Cover then what can you do?
- One2Four: Do you know what the Government said NO too?
Do you know what NSW Governments position is on individual components of the NSWNA pay and conditions claim? Did you know they’ve said NO to 1% extra for employer paid superannuation?
They have also said NO to mandated minimum staffing ratios!
And NO to fair rostering principles!
