VIDEO: A Nurse’s Story About Workers Compensation

The trade union movement’s campaign against cuts to workers compensation ramps up a notch this week, with the launch of TV and radio advertisements and the announcement of a major rally.

The creative animation ad will air on major commercial TV networks for the next five weeks.

There will also be a series of billboards on major roads across Sydney.

“The message in these advertisements is simple. Anyone can get injured at work and under these changes, everyone is vulnerable”, Unions NSW Secretary, Mark Lennon said.

“Under the proposed changes, workers would lose protection on their way to and from work. Medical expenses would be capped and compensation would be cut off after two and a half years.”

Check out the video below where nurse Emily Orchard talks to Channel 7 about how her life has been impacted by an injury at work.

i’ts just sad to read something like this. I mean as a nurse i was a bit demoralized that they have to cut some benefits like our protection going in and out of work. I mean like doctors we’re also on call so i guess we deserve the same protection as others are getting…

No matter what anyone receives by means of a compensation payout, it will never make up for the enormous loss!
What price could you put on the inability to be a productive member of the working community, the loss of independence, loss of personal relationships, the social isolation, having to live in constant pain, financial devastation, the ability to trust in a system that is supposed to support you and the list goes on!
How can Barry O’Farrell justify even considering these amendments?
I hope that no-one in his family ever has to go through the hell that is Workers Comp!

  3. Wyzolma says:

Maybe it would bring home just how absurd these changes are if some member a politician’s family WAS effected by these laws. But then I’m sure they’d find a loophole….case of who you know really. No, I am not cynical just commenting on what I have seen happen in the past.
