9 Things Nurses And Midwives REALLY Want For Christmas

Here’s a list of things we’d like as gifts this holiday season. Some are a little more feasible than others but that doesn’t mean they’re not all very important to us.

Something not related to nursing

Thinking about buying a gift for a nurse? Forget they’re a nurse and think about their interests. We spend so much of our time at work that we don’t need anything for it. Maybe a clean pair of scrubs but I think I can sort that out myself, thank you though.

A foot massage at the end of every shift

We don’t think this is too unreasonable? Try spending 99% of your work on your feet and you might get the picture!

Safe patient ratios

How good would this be? Not just for us in making our work more manageable but for the patients too. This is the crème de la crème of gifts.

For everyone to stay safe and healthy

While we hope all year round that people stay healthy and don’t need our help, it’s especially important during December as families come together.

To keep our penalty rates!

While we’re on the topic of things that would help all nurses and midwives, let’s keep the penalty rates how they are, okay? We don’t look forward to Sunday night shifts just because there’s nothing good on TV. We deserve our penalty rates and I don’t know what I’d do without mine.

An empty waiting room

If there’s no patients, then no one’s sick! Good for you and good for me.

Something to drink

If all else fails, a nice bottle of liquor or fancy box of tea leaves would go down a treat. And if you’re buying for me personally, no ginger please.

For our hospitals to stay in public hands

We don’t want healthcare to be run for profit. That’s when we suffer and patients suffer.

A month’s worth of packed lunches

It might sound silly, but not having to worry about lunch everyday even for a short time would be a welcome respite. And who knows, after a month maybe you’d be good enough to keep doing it…

Is there something we’ve missed? What do you want most for Christmas this year? Let us know!
