Are you a nurse looking to take that next step in your career? Forge your career path in Mental Health studies.
This year a number of nurses graduated with a Master of Applied Mental Health Studies from the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) with new skills and knowledge to lead the recovery-oriented, clinical care of people with lived experience of mental illness. Having completed courses in Leadership Practice in Mental Health and Innovation and Improvement in Mental Health Care, they are now better equipped to work with patients, their carers and families.
Designed for nurses and allied health professionals looking to take the next steps in a mental health career, HETI’s Applied Mental Health Studies course offers an opportunity for professionals who work in mental health to study alongside and learn from professionals across the health sector including those working in:
- Specialised Inpatient and Community Mental Health Care
- Other Hospital or Emergency Department settings
- Community Health Care Services
- Primary Health
- Early Childhood
- Primary and Secondary Education settings
- Aged Care clinical or residential services
- Other settings where the student can demonstrate a connection with mental health related work
From the first year of study, students have the opportunity to specialise in a life stage:
Studying core subjects with students across the specialisations, you will share knowledge and experience of your specialisation, while also learning about the others. HETI’s integrated learning approach creates a collaborative environment, building working relationships across the health sector that will last long after graduation.
So, what’s involved?
Delivered 100% online, this program allows you to study at your own pace, wherever you are located. Faculty and staff work alongside students, assisting and supporting you to achieve your goals.
You will join a community of leading mental health practitioners dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of people in NSW and beyond. Online forums encourage collaboration, through open discussion and regular communication.
One, two or three years? It’s up to you
Adding to the flexibility of online study, three course levels allows students the option to exit at a point appropriate to your needs with a recognised accredited award:
- Graduate Certificate – (generally 1 year)
- Graduate Diploma – (generally 2 years) and
- Masters – (generally 3 years)
Underpinning HETI’s approach to mental health education is a strong recovery-oriented philosophy and practice.
Through supporting the recovery journeys of people with mental illness, HETI is maximising hope, resilience, self-management and advocacy.
